As preparations for the 2019 general elections gathers momentum, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has zoned its presidential ticket to the north and vice president to the south east in 2019.

Two names penciled down as possible candidates to fly the party’s presidential flag, is the incumbent Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo. Pundits say, Dankwambo is free from corruption charges, with world knowledge of politics and has gained support both from the Governors forum and the national Assembly. The Gombe State Governor is the former accountant general of the federation and he is on his second term as Governor under PDP.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu has been touted to deputize Dankwambo as Vice Presidential candidate, has been elected four times as a senator in his zone, and three times as deputy senate president of the national assembly under the PDP.

Dankwambo is seen as a saleable candidate in the North, which may be acceptable by Nigerians, considering his records of achievements in Gombe State. The Governor is not enmeshed in controversies and is considered as one who could upstage the incumbent President, should Buhari decide to run for another elections in 2019.

Ekweremadu is also considered as a rallying point in the South Eastern region, who is likely to pull the votes of the region, often seen as the most marginalized and has not produce a President or Vice in decades.

Sources say, different political groups have been commissioned to drum support across the country for the Dankwambo /Ekweremadu 2019 project.

Top party chieftains have been fingered in the plot to pair the both, as the party counts down to her National convention, which is expected that it will be discussed in a larger caucus.
