…as State holds Solemn Assembly to Usher in New Year
The recent war chant by former governor Godswill Akpabio now Senator and member of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has continued to elicit condemnation and rebuke from the people of Akwa Ibom State at home and in the diaspora.
The latest of such condemnation was the invocation of “Holy Ghost Fire” by over 10,000 Akwa Ibomites on those who plan violence and other evil against the state as the 2019 general election draws new. The people who gathered at Ibom Hall grounds, Uyo on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 for the annual re-dedication service/Solemn Assembly responded with a resounding “Holy Ghost Fire” as the man of God who anchored the prayer session for peace, unity, love and prosperity to the people of the state asked God “to destroy the counsel of the wicked who are planning to unleash terror on the state and ruin her peace in the name of politics.
Three times the man of God chanted: “Lord we call on you to frustrate the plans of those who want to destroy the state through Warsaw” and three times the people chorused aloud “Holy Ghost Fire”. Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church, Dr. Sunday Mbang in his concluding prayer even asked God to kill the Warsaw plotters if they refuse to repent and embrace peace. Mbang who described the “Warsaw” proponents as betrayers and perpetrators of evil prayed God not to spare their lives beyond this year should they fail to retrace their steps and embrace peace for which Akwa Ibom State has been known.
It would be recalled that Senator Godswill Akpabio, soon after his “uncommon defection” to the APC last year, boasted openly at different fora that he was coming as Hitler, taking war to Warsaw and that “Warsaw shall see war and war shall see Warsaw”.
That scathing statement has raised so much dust that has refused to lie down. No one day or week passes without someone or a group of people making reference to it, condemning the former Governor for being so unguarded in his utterance and praying God not to allow his violence plot and that of his cohorts to materialize.
For example, the people of Eket Senatorial district through the Leaders’ Forum reported the matter to President Mohammadu Buhari in an open letter published in the Nation Newspaper of December 19, 2018, calling on the President and Leader of the APC at the Federal level to call the former Senate Minority Leader to order to avert a possible break down of law and order in the state which the letter said, was the obvious threat contained in the “Warsaw” chant by Senator Akpabio.
