It’s settled history that Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was a major arrowhead of the independence struggle. Together with other patriots he waged an intellectual war against British colonialists and won freedom/1st independence for Nigeria on 1st October 1960.
Following post war excesses of the core North; monumental injustices, domination, marginalisation and minority exclusion, it became necessary to create a structure that can guarantee equity and freedom amongst Nigerians and to eradicate the concept of minority versus majority.
Again Dr Alex Ekwueme came up with and championed the idea of 6 geo-political zones as a formula for equity and regional autonomy. Indeed many of us who have readily claimed these regional identities do not even realise that a certain Dr Ekwueme made it possible.
With unrelenting injustices, unpunished hate crimes in the North, unpunished Fulani herdsmen terrorist invasions/massacres down south, born to rule internal colonialism, nepotism, corruption, misrule, discrimination/Apartheid and an unworkable unitary system imposed by the core North, it became obvious that Nigeria needed a 2nd independence from the clutches of the retrogressive, oppressive, unjust, domineering and malevolent unitarist Northern cabal.
Once again, Nnamdi Kanu leads the struggle for the 2nd and final independence/freedom from the uncivilised and evil forces that has held Nigeria’s ethnic nation’s down.
It could be the manifest destiny of the East and South to bear the torch of Freedom. But whatever it is; Nigeria must listen to the voices of reason and equitably restructure the nation or contend with inevitable implosion sooner or later.
