2023 WILL SOON BE HERE (IV)

Layi Deinde

Nigerians are getting inpatient with the way the Government is addressing the deficiency we have been subjected to over time.

We actually have every right to feel that way. In order to fast track development, several young gladiators appear in the political scene, with a resolve to do differently what those who have been in the saddle weren’t able to effect, with all material and human capita at their disposal.

They were united in the identification of the problems, coming together to solve the problem was a major challenge to them. Their individual performances in the last Election wasn’t one to be cheerful about.

Few months after the inauguration of the new Government, @Omoyele Sowore started toying with the idea of a #REVOLUTION.
This was a clearly missed chance, assume all his contemporary focused more on Nigeria and less on themselves, by going into the last Election as a single bloc.

I for one foresee the outcome of the Young Political Parties, standing all apart to face established, broad based structures of the ALL PROGRESSIVE’S CONGRESS and that of the PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

The reasons young politicians are giving for failure to unite isn’t impressive, a contrast of the intellectual capacity they are endowed with, a validation of the long held notion that intelligence is different from wisdom, one might not even have both.

The permissible #REVOLUTION through the ballot box was frittered away while the one likely to pitch one against a Government that was democratically elected is being made an option!
What an audacity?

What is being put up as justification for an attempt to seize power from a Government that holds same legitimately can hardly stand.

Some said the only way to wrestle power is by violence. Those holding dear such idea make reference to the Arab World.
They close their vision of reasoning to the aftermath of the Protest, Conflicts that swept through the troubles Nations and how they have been set back, ever since.

Another room of thought as held by some is that Nigeria can never effect change via the ballot box.
They choose to be poor students of History.

Nigeria is evolving, though at a very slow pace.
Since 1999, when our Population was around 120 million citizens, the registered voters number was 57,938,945. The total votes cast as at then was 30, 280, 052, which is 52.3% of registered voters. Where the Presidential Election was won with a little less than 19 million votes.

Moving forward to 2019, when our Population increased to 190 million, our registered voters list increased to 82,344,107. The total votes cast instead of increasing was stagnant at 29,364,209, 34.75% of registered voters, the Presidential Election was won with 15 million votes.

In my view, the introduction of Electronic devices, CARD READER has reduced drastically the manipulation our Politicians indulge in.
Contrary to the wrong notion of our votes don’t count, i feel it has began to count, citizens should just brace up and get more vigilant, before, during and after Election period.

In my view, another milestone was the ousting of the incumbent in 2015, a feat that has never occurred in the history of our Political sojourn.

To achieve this feat, strange Political bedfellows swallowed their pride, came together to battle a common enemy, the result was the landmark victory of the APC in 2015. In essence the young politicians should be united by the desire for a better Nigeria. The individual ideas, energy, resources and strategy they dissipate differently should be aggregated at least to serve as a test case for the State Governorship Elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states, coming up in the later part of 2019.

An integral part of our Political engineering is the phenomenon of #PROTEST_VOTES. It has the tendency of switching votes, this has afforded many Political neophytes victory in several parts of Nigeria.

Our young bright minds should have a change of attitude.
We need to desist from
1 ) Blame others for what we have the ability to actualise.

2) Using the wrong method to address problem.

This is clearly the case with this call for a #REVOLUTION at this material time.

The type of #REVOLUTION if at all necessary is best achieved through the ballot box, as was the case in 2015. The wrong assertion that nothing good could come through our Electoral process is an unfortunate statement, we need to be more strategic and also double the vigilance efforts for desired outcome.

Layi Deinde 2019.
