The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye, has urged journalists to verify information before publishing reports to promote accuracy and prevent the spread of misinformation.
Adeboye gave the advice on Sunday, November 1, 2026, during the church’s monthly Thanksgiving Service, where he preached on the topic, “Activating Your Potentials.”
The cleric recounted a report alleging that he carried a placard in protest against former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2015. He, however, dismissed the report as false, insisting that he never participated in any protest against the former president.
Adeboye explained that he took part in a prayer walk in 2020, during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, following a directive from the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for churches to pray for the peace of the nation.
He clarified that the prayer walk took place five years after Jonathan left office, emphasising the need for journalists to verify information before making it public.
The cleric urged journalists and other creatives, whose work influences public opinion, to investigate claims thoroughly before publishing their reports.
He warned that publishing unverified information could spread misinformation, create disunity and threaten national stability.
Adeboye concluded by praying for God’s grace and mercy upon journalists and other creatives as they carry out their responsibilities and seek to activate their potentials.
