Wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Dr.(Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel, on December 26, 2020 feted wives of the 31 Paramount Rulers in the State under the auspices of Paramount Rulers Wives Association (PRUWA). The event which held in strict compliance to Covid-19 guidelines, took place at the chambers of the Council of Chiefs, Government House, Uyo.
Addressing the Monarchs’ Wives during the event, the Akwa Ibom first lady, Mrs. Martha Emmanuel who was represented by the wife of the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Bright Archibong, said that the get-together was organized celebrate with the wives of the Monarchs and put smiles their faces during this festive season.
She urged them to remain committed to the ideals exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ and also preach same as they celebrate the season with women in their respective LGAs. “Christmas is a period to spread love and generate happiness to others especially the needy”, she noted.
According to her : “As Christians, we must at all times live and preach the virtues of love and peaceful co-existence.
“We must also continue to reach out to the less privileged members of the society, extend our hands of love, benevolence and care.
“As wives of our Paramount Rulers, endeavor to sensitize the public on the need to fight and be vigilant against rape and other Gender based Violence and as mothers please pay attention to your children especially the girl child and teach them how to walk in the ways of God.”
She warned rapists to stay off Akwa Ibom State as the State Government will never condone such an evil act.
She further urged them to ensure total compliance to the Covid-19 laid down rules and protocols at all times by using face masks always.
The Governor’s wife distributed wrappers, Blouses , cash gifts and other items to the monarchs’ wives.
In her remarks, the President, Paramount Rulers Wives Association, Akwa Obonganwan Philomena Solomon Daniel Etuk lauded the achievements recorded by the Government of Mr. Udom Emmanuel and for accommodating women in his Government.
In her words: “His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s footprints in Akwa Ibom State must be applauded, he has proven to the general public that women deserve to be given positions of authority and so far, the females in government haven’t disappointed us.
“Her Excellency (Dr.) Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel’s support for the involvement of women in position of authority has encouraged Akwa Ibom women to be active in governance and kudos must be given to her for the role she has played. Indeed, she is a mother.”
The Nsit Ubium Monarch’s wife appreciated the Mrs. Martha Emmanuel for her show of love and concern towards them and prayed God to bless her, her family and the State.
She also thanked the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Frank Archibong and wife, for their Continuous support and encouragement to the women.
The event had in attendance all Wives of Serving Paramount Rulers and Wives of Past Paramount Rulers in Akwa Ibom State.
