Paramount rulers in Akwa Ibom State have warned misguided politicians against disrupting the peace and tranquillity currently prevailing in the state.
Rising from a meeting of the Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, presided by the Chairman, HRM Edidem, Apostle (Dr.) Ntoeng Udo Effiong Akpan, the royal fathers stated that the collective interest of the state far supercedes that of any individual or group.
The press statement signed by 24 paramount rulers present at the meeting held at the Council Chambers, Uyo, stated, “The Royal Fathers have observed with deep regret the attempt by Akwa Ibom State sons and daughters to disturb the prevailing peace and tranquillity which we have enjoyed for a long period in Akwa Ibom State.
“It is our considered opinion that politics should not be regarded or played as a matter of life and death for we know, that after politics and attendant struggle for positions, Akwa Ibom State will ever remain.
“We advise our politicians as fathers of them all, to eschew bitterness, brigandry, acrimony, bad blood and ill feelings toward one another.
“Therefore, traditional fathers do condemn in its entirety any attempt from whatever quarters to disrupt the peace of our dear state and shall deploy all moral persuasions to discourage the breakdown of law and order in our beloved state.
“We do hereby appeal to all security agencies in the state, sons and daughters to please eschew hate speeches, fake news or wild propaganda that may create spurious feelings and acts capable of causing breach of the peace in our society.”
According to the paramount rulers, their word of advice is sufficient unto the wise.

The position of the paramount rulers may not be unconnected to the development in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly where the Police laid siege and denied access to legislators and workers for days.
