AKHA WORKS COMMITTEE LED BY HON. DAVID LAWRENCE EMBARKS ON OVERSIGHT FUNCTION

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly committee on Works and Transport, on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, embarked on inspection of construction sites, in Ediko Road, Udung Uko LGA, Spring road, Murtala road, and Beach road, as part of its oversight functions in the Assembly.

The Chairman of the committee and Member, Representing Eket State Constituency, Hon.David Lawrence, who led other members of the committee on the inspection, said, we are here is to have an on the spot assessment and to ascertain the level of preparedness and readiness on sites because for some time now most Contractors were out of sites for various reasons including the outbreak of Covid 19.

Now that the Governor has mobilised Contractors to sites, we want to ensure that this money is applied effectively. The people are anxious to know that Contractors are on site and the Committee wants to ensure that the promise made by the Governor to deliver all road projects in his Completion Agenda is fulfilled.

He further stated that, The House will not condone any level of unprofessionalism and low quality job as far as roads in Akwa Ibom State are concerned and they don’t want to see failed portions because it will not be acceptable.

Any Contractor that does not live to expectations, will be blacklisted, and his contract revoked, Lawrence was quoted as saying.

He further said, the exercise is the beginning of the inspection and the Committee will go to all road project sites in the state, and as such, all the Contractors should be up and doing because the Committee is going to be very strict.

The project Managers for Evomce Global Services, Engr.. Kenneth Odigie and WICHINO Construction Company, Engr Yusuf Kolawale, who responded separately, pledged their resolve to deliver the projects timely as promised.
