Trail Reporters
Reports reaching Trail Reporters news desk, shows that, an attempt to allegedly murder Joseph Odok, a staunch critic of the Ayade’s government and an APC faithful was yesterday, unsuccessful.
The incident which took place at the parliamentary village in Calabar, left scores of injuries on his body.
One of our sources was quoted as saying, “The clueless MoU government of Governor Benedict Ayade allegedly sent assassins to assassinate the only true change agent(Joseph Odok). If not for the quick intervention from the DSS,who came to his recue,Joseph Odok would have been a dead man as we speak.Cross River state chapter of the APC will get to the bottom of this.
“these people are desperate. But we are sure is the government -though I know they can do anything in Nigeria where individuals have been known to go missing -despair for life.”
“Political enemies of Joseph Odok are many oooh. You can’t speak for Change and be allowed to stay alive.”
Giving another account of the scenario, Another source was quoted saying, “this is very unfortunate and and i don’t support this kind of situation at all. I arrived the scene of this incident this afternoon – in parliamentary village, immediately after it happened. I’ve never met Joseph Odok before so I didn’t know who he was but we were all of the opinion that he needs first aid as the gash on his arm was looking bad.
He was more interested in having someone take him to the police station with a lady that he said was ‘used to set him up.’
There was no “quick intervention” from the DSS, rather soldiers attached to the Homeland security were the first to arrive the scene before three armed men in a truck came thereafter.
Even the soldiers arrived over 20 minutes after the actual incident.”
Residents have condemned what they describe as an infringement on free speech. We also gathered that, recently, Joseph Odok has called for accountability in the way the state’s resources is handled, and had queried Gershom Bassey’s stay in the senate, alleging that, his days as Chairman, Cross River State waterboard were unchecked, and that cannot happen again in the senate.
As at the time of this report, there was no official statement from the All Progressives Congress, but the police hierarchy in the state said, investigation has commenced.
