The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Eket local Government Area, on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, played host to Charlie Bassey, a former Councilor in Eket central ward 4, and a Chairmanship Aspirant in the forth coming local government elections in Akwa Ibom.
Speaking at the occasion, the party secretary who spoke on behalf of the chapter Executive members welcomed the aspirant and his entourage and thanked them for coming to the party secretariat.
Also speaking, the Chairmanship hopeful Charlie, said, he had performed well as a Councilor, with the little resources at his disposal, and if he is given the party ticket, and his subsequent emergence as Chairman, he will give priority to the people of Eket and also take care of the party Executive members and the secretariat.
He outlined few of his programmes for the people, amongst which were, agricultural revolution in Eket, which as a Farmer, he will bring his wealth of knowledge to bear in the Local Government.
He also said he will pay attention to Education in his administration, and empower youths in the area, to be gainfully employed.
He thanked the party for the opportunity given him to come, and presented items to the chapter, amongst which were traditional items for consultation, a refrigerating set and a cash donation to the party.
Speaking, the vice chairman of PDP ward 4 central, Victor Udoyo said, Charlie had changed the face of the party at the ward level, that if he is given the position of the Chairman, he will do well. Other speakers at the occasion were the Women Leader in the ward,Charity Ikott, the youth leader, and the Chapter organizing secretary, Abasiubong Udotai.
Responding, the chapter youth leader, urged the Aspirant to remember the party when he eventually emerge, as he has promised.
Reacting, the PDP chapter chairman, Emman Mbong said, the party secretariat has been opened, and it is working towards being the best chapter office in the state. He added that, he knew Charlie from the days of afigh iwaad ekid as a man of his words and someone who can deliver, and that the party will give him the encouragement. He also said that all Aspirants will be given a level playing ground and congratulated him for the courage to aspire as a Chairman,after finishing as a Councilor.
Emman Mbong advised Charlie to go ahead with his consultations pending when open campaigns will be declared.
Responding to questions from Trail Reporters at the end of the event on the purported endorsement of Aspirants by some wards, the Chapter Chairman said, there was nothing of such, as only socio political groups have so far endorsed aspirants.
On his preparedness to accommodate the interest of all aspirants without bias, he restated that the party will give every aspirant a level playing ground to succeed.
Also in attendance were stakeholders drawn from different wards in Eket.
