The Nigerian continued with his fine form in America, netting two goals for the Timbers in the Major League Soccer encounter on Saturday
Fanendo Adi responded to Nigeria snub by scoring twice to help Portland Timbers begin their season with a 5-1 demolition of Minnesota United.
The forward was excluded by coach Gernot Rohr when he announced his 25-man squad for this month’s international friendlies against Senegal and Burkina Faso.
Lawrence Olum powered Timbers ahead in the 14th minute, while Diego Valeri doubled the lead two minutes after the halftime break.
Christian Ramirez pulled one back for the visitors in the 79th minute and three minutes later, Valeri completed his brace from the penalty spot.
And while it looked like the game would end 3-1 in favour of Caleb Porter’s side, Adi powered two stoppage time goals to hand his team a massive win.
Portland Timbers top the Western Conference with three points plus a massive goals difference, and they visit La Galaxy in their next outing on March 12.
26-year-old Adi who was first handed a senior national team call up in March 2016 for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt is yet to make his debut for the three-time African kings despite his rich goal scoring form.
