Hardwork does not kill but laziness is a waster of colourful destiny.

It is a common knowledge that “you cannot eat your cake and have it” which is why His Excellency the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa (The Ozabor of Oza-Nogogo) decided to reward a young man who shunned night clubs, movie centres and lazy course mates to emerge as the best overall graduating student at the 11th Convocation ceremony of Delta State University, Abraka on Saturday July 22.

The graduating star, Mr Joshua Erubami pulled a mesmerising 4:48 GPA and caught the attention of the SMART GOVERNOR who openly ordered the University authority to offer him automatic employment as a graduate assistant and to commence his doctorate degree programme.

The difference between the best graduating student and those who could not make the 2015/2016 DELSU graduating students list is that while Erubani was burning candle lights reading voraciously; those who failed the final year examinations were either glued to the social media or rocking their examination marks away in night clubs or had constant fun at movie centres.

Gov Okowa has no respect for mediocrity and eye service hence hardwork and capacity is key in the implementation of the SMART AGENDA. It follows that the best graduating student, Mr Joshua Erubami by the automatic employment became one of the ambassadors of the Smart Agenda, a key resource person in the new Delta the governor is building through deliberate socioeconomic policies.

To the other 31 First Class Graduates, its obvious that Gov Okowa already have their names for close monitoring, and may decide to utilize their intellectual capacities now or in the very near future. They are no longer among mean men; they shall henceforth occupy front roles wherever they found themselves. The young ladies among them are now women of solid virtues.

Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of DELSU and academic icon, Prof Sam Oyovbaire savoured the rising academic profile of the University and assured the Visitor, His Excellency the Governor of greater achievements as Council hope to raise the standards and status of the institution to a world class.

Gov Okowa commended the management of the University for its hardwork, clear and result oriented vision which, according him, has started yielding tremendous accolades from the academic community. He urged Council to get cracking and explore other sources of revenue generation to further strengthen and improve on infrastructure development and research capacities so as to make DELSU an elite citadel of learning in the near future.

The education sector in Delta State under the Okowa administration has been and still receiving priority attention as captured in the SMART AGENDA.

At the last count, this administration has disbursed over N250 millon to some 20,000 Deltans in tertiary institutions. N347 million was also approved for the 2015/2016 academic year disbursements exercise.

The Okowa administration revitalised technical and vocational education and within two years completed renovation and equipment of three technical colleges (Agbor, Sapele and Ofagbe) and the remaining three (Issele-Uku, Utagba-Ogbe and Ogor colleges) are undergoing the same process and hope to be completed few months from now.

It is worthy of note that a total of N3,613,056,248.09 worth of capital projects has been executed under the Ministry of Higher Education and still counting.

The huge investment has made it possible for students in tertiary institutions in Delta State to learn under conducive environment with well equipped libraries which is now reflecting in the number of graduates and first class academicians produced by the University during the 11th convocation ceremony.

Another highlight of the convocation ceremony was the conferrement of Doctorage Degrees on three prominent Deltans; 100 years old Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom, His Royal Highness Ovie Richard Ogbon, the Asagba of Asaba, Prof Obi Edozien and world class master artist, Dr Bruce Onobrakpaye.

GOV OKOWA IS WORKING, DELTANS ARE VERY HAPPY.

DELTA STATE IN SAFE HANDS.
