Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made a surprise appearance on the runway at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week, modelling a collection by Nigerian fashion designer Ugo Monye.
The governor joined professional models during Monye’s presentation at the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, October 31, attracting cheers from the audience.
Sanwo-Olu later shared photographs and videos of his appearance on his social media accounts, describing the experience as an opportunity to support the state’s creative industry.
He said Lagos was growing as a centre for fashion, creativity and culture, adding that he was proud of designers and other creative professionals promoting the state on the global stage.
The appearance marked Sanwo-Olu’s second documented runway appearance at Lagos Fashion Week. He previously walked for Nigerian designer Emmy Kasbit in October 2023, joining the presentation to close the show.
The 2026 edition of Lagos Fashion Week ran from October 28 to November 1 under the theme “CRAFTED: Heritage. Innovation. Circular Futures.”
Founded in 2011 by Omoyemi Akerele, Lagos Fashion Week provides a platform for Nigerian and other African designers to showcase their collections and connect with buyers, retailers, investors and other fashion industry stakeholders.
The event continues to promote African fashion, craftsmanship and creative entrepreneurship while connecting local designers with international audiences.
