Spanish football club CD Tenerife has confirmed the death of its forward, Jesús de Miguel, following an on-field collision during a league match against FC Andorra. He was 30.

De Miguel died on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, a day after the incident occurred during a Spanish second-division match at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium in Tenerife.

The collision occurred during stoppage time when FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out of his goal to challenge De Miguel for a long ball. Owono’s knee struck the forward in the chest, leaving him unconscious on the pitch.

Medical personnel immediately attended to De Miguel before he was taken to hospital by ambulance. He reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest following the incident and was admitted to intensive care.

The match, which was tied at 2-2, was abandoned following the incident. Owono was shown a straight red card for the challenge.

CD Tenerife announced De Miguel’s death in a statement on Tuesday, expressing grief over the loss and extending condolences to his family, friends, teammates and supporters.

The club also requested privacy for his family during the period of mourning.

Spanish police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities explained that judicial inquiries are routinely conducted when deaths are considered non-natural under Spanish law. The investigation does not, in itself, establish criminal responsibility on the part of any individual.

Following the announcement, FC Andorra, Real Madrid, Barcelona and other football organisations expressed condolences to De Miguel’s family and CD Tenerife.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation also postponed scheduled cup fixtures as a mark of respect, while UEFA announced that moments of silence would be observed before European matches.

Born in Madrid in 1996, De Miguel began his senior football career with Leganés B in 2015. He later represented several Spanish clubs, including Inter Madrid, Fuenlabrada, Navalcarnero, Unionistas de Salamanca and Castellón, before joining Tenerife in 2025.

He scored 11 goals for Tenerife during the 2025–26 season.

His death has sent shockwaves through Spanish football, with clubs, players and supporters paying tribute to the striker.
