THE CHURCH GAINED NOTHING FROM HAVING OSINBAJO AS VICE PRESIDENT” — PASTOR FEMI EMMANUEL

Pastor Femi Emmanuel has criticised what he described as the political ignorance of many Christian leaders in Nigeria, arguing that believers often focus on a candidate’s religion without participating in the political process that produces leaders.

Speaking during a recent interview, the cleric said many pastors are passionate about Nigeria but lack adequate knowledge of party politics and grassroots participation.

According to him, Christians cannot expect a credible Christian candidate to emerge if they are absent from political parties, ward meetings and the processes through which delegates and candidates are chosen.

“You are not where laws are made, you are not where policies are implemented, but you are shouting from the pulpit. That is shouting from the back of the fence.”

Pastor Femi Emmanuel also referred to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, noting that although he was a respected pastor and accomplished professional, his position as vice president did not necessarily translate into direct benefits for the Church.

“The Church gained nothing from having Osinbajo, a pastor, as vice president.”

He maintained that Nigerians should prioritise competence, credibility and character rather than choosing leaders primarily because of their religious identity.

According to him, God can use a credible and capable person to lead a nation, whether or not that individual is a Christian.
