WE’LL TACKLE INCESSANT GAS STATIONS IN UYO METROPOLIS – COMMISSIONER

The Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in Akwa Ibom State, Captain Iniobong Ekong(rtd), has promised to tackle the incessant gas stations that has sprung up in Uyo metropolis and other cities across the State.

The Commissioner made this known during a Media parley with a team of select Journalists at the conference room of the Ministry, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.

According to him, the Ministry will partner with Uyo Capital City Development Authority to ensure that proper documentation for the gas stations.

He stated that, with the rapid growth and expansion in the State, the setting up of these stations in residential areas, posses a threat to safety of lives and properties.

According to the commissioner, “We understand that there are processes in setting up gas stations. From the point of DPR clearance, to other steps, we will find out the compliance level, and those that have flouted safety and other concerns prescribed in their approvals will be shut down. We will not compromise safety with business interests”.

He frowned at the conversion
of residential properties to commercial purposes in setting up gas outlets and stations. He vowed that the Government will take steps to address the unfortunate and ugly situation while maintaining that the government has a duty to protect lives and properties.
