Absolute power corrupts absolutely. For those with penchant for digging big holes for their perceived enemies, they too would soon have their days, it is a matter of time! Tough time never last, but tough men do.
Why has our society turned a stage play with questionable characters churning out invectives? Has our society become that sickening that antagonists are dramatically turning protagonists in our own very eyes?
The events in past days in our darling nation called for sober reflection. If we have not lost our sense of reasoning and rationality as a people, then the time is ripe for us to wear our thinking cap and ruminate over issues around us if we don’t want to live in regret for a long time to come.
When blood sucking robbery syndicate held ancient town of Offa by its jugular April 5, 2018 and we all screamed to High Heaven as a result of loss of innocent souls, we thought the masterminds and perpetrators would be unearthed, unmasked, grilled and brought to justice without needless political orchestration.
Alas, we might be making a mistake. If the deadly attack that not only claimed lives but also shattered the economy of Offa as a whole cannot be handled or treated as it is and therefore turned to Theatre of the Absurd, then we are comically dancing Azonto on the graves of the innocent people, whose lives ended tragically.
The attack on Offa town widely acclaimed to be second largest settlement after Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, left with it trails of tears, sorrow and blood. The mental picture of the tragic scenario still permeates the ancient town that had enjoyed relative peace until the miscreants invaded it.
There is no doubting the fact that the community is currently reeling from the attack that shook it to its foundation and seeking measures to fortify its security architecture with a view to averting the re-enactment of such bloodletting.
But one is alarmed with the latest report emanating from the Police on the suspects arrested in connection with the robbery attack. The police, in its attempts to fight dirty, linked the President of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki to being behind the dastardly act.
How on earth would a man like Saraki condescend himself to the extent of sponsoring armed robbers against his own people? Haba!!! What manner of cruelty is this? Even if we must play politics with everything we can lay our hands upon, it betrays common sense to toy with lives that we cannot create. Those whose lives were terminated in the Offa robbery incident as well as the bereaved would not forgive us that we are making jest of them using political sentiment.
If the police authorities inexplicably failed to honour Senate summons on the killings in some parts of the country and now tactically turing around to incriminate the Senate President over Offa robbery attack, there is more to it than meet the eye.
May we appeal to the men of goodwill to prevail on police high command to be cautious and mindful of this virulent and desperate moves to massacre our hard won democracy before it is too late, just on the altar of politics.
