Trail Reporters
There was tension in Uyo on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, as the social media was agog with calls from citizens of Akwa Ibom to discard the property charge bill being sponsored by Usoro Akpanusoh, the member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno state constituency in the House of Assembly.
With the public outcry over the bill which had passed its second reading, many had protested and tagged it as satanic, for such a bill to emanate from the Assembly.
Sources who spoke with Trail Reporters, had accused Akpanusoh of sponsoring a self serving bill, which is inimical to the populace.
The online protest which was sponsored by the Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (COHRD), was led by a Journalist and Human Rights Activist, Eneh John, who has advocated for the discarding of the bill in its entirety.
Speaker after Speaker who spoke with our Reporter, said, moves will be made to recall Akpanusoh from the Assembly, as he is speaking for himself on the property bill, and not for the people of Esit Eket/Ibeno.
In defiance to the public outcry, Akpanusoh have been quoted by Journalists in Akwa Ibom, that the bill was not condemned in its entirety, insisting he will go ahead with the bill till it is passed into law.
There are moves according to reliable sources, to obtain a court injunction, restraining the House of assembly from further hearing the bill.
