COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLES AND VEHICLES OPERATORS DECRY POLICE EXTORTION ON OGHAREFE – OTEFE ROAD IN DELTA STATE

Motorcycles and vehicles operators plying Ogharefe – Otefe road route in Oghara the administrative headquarter of Ethiope west local government area of Delta state have cried out over what they described as extortion by police officers along the route; saying that it was the reason behind the increment in transport fair from Oghara junction to Otefe the polytechnic town.

They lamented that, they usually paid N 100 forcefully to police officers stations enroute to Otefe every trip, noting that the trend was becoming unbearable and therefore called on government and relevant agencies to prevail on the issue.

Speaking to correspondent in Oghara on behalf of motorcycles and vehicles operators plying the route, who simply gave his name as Efe, said that the increment was necessitated due to the way the police officers at various spots along the route collect money from them on daily basis.

The police officers are frustrating our efforts, they will collect N 100 from us every trip, and if you refuse to give them, they will delay you for a long time.

adding, he said that we will buy fuel and before you realize it, you will go back home at the end of the day without nothing, he explained bitterly to our correspondent, we are tired of these rubbish. If not, how can somebody reap where they have not sown.

The police will be there at their various spot , yet they collect more than us who are always on the road risking our lives. They, therefore called on the police authorities and leadership of the community to call police officers to order.

Also speaking with correspondent, the Polytechnic student who gave her name as Kevwe, HND 1, said the police officers always demand to checked their phones, reasons yet unknown to them, the police duties is to protect lives and properties not endangering their lives, she therefore appeal to the school authorities to save students from police harassment.
