EKET HOUSE OF REPS MEMBER, EKPOATTAI EMPOWERS CONSTITUENTS THROUGH SKILLS ACQUISITION

The National Assembly lawmaker for Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/ Ibeno federal constituency, Mrs.Ekpoattai Owoidighe on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, flagged off a skills acquisition training for members of her federal constituency.

The event took place at her constituency office along Edemudo street in Eket Local Government Area.

Speaking during the Flag off of the event, the Lawmaker who was represented by her spouse, Barr Ime Ekpoattai said, the day is a beautiful day and he was pleased to be here.

He conveyed the inability of the House member to be physically present due to the resumption of plenary at the National Assembly.

Ekpoattai appreciated the trainers and trainees, and listed areas of the skills acquisition to include catering, tailoring, amongst others.

He stated that the training will cover a period of three months and one year. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity the training will afford them, adding that, with this training, beneficiaries are going to be self reliance and independent.

Ekpoattai maintained that the skills acquisition in conjunction with NAPTIP is to help bridge the gap of unemployment in the federal constituency.

Speaking further, Barr Ekpoattai appealed to all the beneficiaries to ensure that they put in more efforts in attending to the lectures they will receive in the process, saying that, it is the believe of the Lawmaker that at the end of the training, which is meant to last for five days, all participants would have enjoyed and gained from it.

He took the participants memory lane and informed them on the achievements of Mrs Ekpoattai over the years to include her provision of boreholes in some communities, offer of recommendations for employment of her constituents in various parastatals, intervention in the Health Sector, provisions f scholarships for the less privileged, amongst others.

The representative of the lawmaker used the opportunity to call on support for Mrs. Ekpoattai assuring that the woman lawmaker is a brand that can be trusted and relied upon at any time.

He promised that equipments and starter packs will be given to beneficiaries at the end of the training. He called for support for Mrs. Ekpoattai even beyond 2019.

The chairman of the occasion and Vice Chairman of ONNA local Government of the PDP, Mr Emmanuel Ekpeyo expressed appreciation to the Eket lawmaker for what he described as bringing grassroots development to the people.

He called on support for Mrs. Ekpoattai adding that the lawmaker is a trusted asset to the people of Eket Federal Constituency. He also called on the people to take the message of Ekpoattai’s empowerment to the nooks and crannies of Eket federal constituency and urged them to ensure that they support Mma Ekpoattai even as the woman legislator is urged to seek a second term to the House of Representatives.

Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Anietie Ukpe poured encomiums on Mrs. Ekpoattai, saying, the lawmaker is a woman with a heart of gold.

He added that, his life is made meaningful today because of what Mrs. Ekpoattai has done for him adding that, he is a caterer, a cosmetologist and a barber made possible by Mrs. Ekpoattai.

He called his colleagues to ensure that they allow the lessons they will learn in this process to better their lives.

Another beneficiary Victoria Inam prayed God to bless Mrs Ekpoattai adding that the woman lawmaker has made her a CEO.

Victoria Imam who hails from Atabong added that when she lost her job in the private sector about five years ago, Mrs. Ekpoattai made her become self reliant by sending her on a training to become a make up artist. She promised to ensure that she impacts positively on the society and make Mrs. Ekpoattai proud.

The training was done in collaboration with NAPTIP.
