MOVEMENT FOR EQUITY & JUSTICE IN ABAK5

Moto: We Shall Take It Back Together

The last person from Abak 5 to serve in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was Senator Bob Ekarika from Oruk Anam LGA (1999- 2003). By the time Sen. Akpabio completes his term in 2019, the people of Abak 5 would have been out of the Senate for 16 years.

In 2015, going by the established zoning principle, it was the turn of Abak 5 to produce the Senator for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, but Akpabio used the instruments of State power to impose himself as Senator. While Akpabio preached zoning, justice and equity for the election of Governor at the State level, he instituted injustice in his Senatorial District by imposing himself on the people. Clearly Sen. Akpabio saw himself as a tingod who was above the law and could not be questioned. Prominent Sons of Abak 5 like Albert Ukpana, Dr. Ime Umana and Okon Uwah who opposed Akpabio’s oppression and injustice were killed and made to pay the supreme price. Atuekong Don Etiebet a most distinguished son of Abak5, elder statesman and national icon was insulted and humiliated by Akpabio in a calculated move to destroy and weaken all the leaders from Abak5.

Today Sen. Akpabio is spitting on the graves of the eminent sons of Abak5 who gave their lives to fight for justice for their people. In an act of unprecedented insensitivity, injustice and oppression, Akpabio has started his campaigns for a second term.

Senator Godswill Akpabio believes he has conquered and enslaved the people of Abak 5. Akpabio arrogantly boasts that he has compensated the people of Abak 5 with the position of Deputy Governor. This is a grave insult to our people. It is a well known fact that the Ikot Ekpene block of the Senatorial District produced Sir Michael Udofia as Deputy Governor and Sen. Ibok Essien at the same time between 2003 and 2007.

We demand for justice. The people of Abak5 must produce the next Senator for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in the interest of justice, equity and peace. The people of Abak5 who are the majority in the Senatorial District cannot be treated as if they are Akpabio’s slaves. Abak 5 is not a conquered territory.
