The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly committee on Works and Transport, led by the Member Representing Eket State Constituency, Hon. David Lawrence, has charged contractors handling road Projects in the State, to deliver on their avowed promises in completion of ongoing projects.
Hon. David Lawrence stated this, during an oversight tour of ongoing road projects in the state. He said, We are making sure that all projects are completed and funds utilized properly. the House Committee on Works is empowered by the constitution, to monitor the progress of work done. He appreciated host communities for cooperating with contractors handling projects in their areas and encouraged them to continue in their support to the construction firms.
Project sites visited were the ongoing conconstruction of 8.5KM Nduetong Oku- Ibiaku Uruan – Ekritam Road with 40M span bridge and a spur in Uruan Local Government, handled by Slavabogu Nigeria Limited, with Engineer. Kingsley Etafo as the Project Manager, who told the committee, that the project is 37.5 % completed, out of which 1km earthwork has been completed at point A, with 500M stone base layer, and 5km line drains, 9km Mbiaya Uruan -Ita Uruan – Ikpa Uruan, Mbiakong Uruan with 60m span bridge, in Uruan Local Government, Ring Road 3 also known as Idongesit Nkanga Boulevard, the 3lanes road project that commences from Aka Nung Udoe road to Oron road and terminents at Nwaniba constructed by Hensek Integrated Services.
Speaking at the project site, the MD of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr. Uwem Okoko, said the two lanes of the road will be completed in two weeks time, and assured the committee that the project will be ready for commissioning before May 29, 2021 and the Company has just gotten right of way to construct a roundabout at Nwaniba and Aka Nung Oku junctions, and also told the committee that the Governor has approved a spur that will connect the timber market with the new ring road 3.
Reacting, the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Lawrence showered encomiums on Hensek Integrated Services, as the best indigenous contractor who can compete with multinationals, and charged him to deliver on his promise of completion in the specified time. He further appreciated the Governor for the level of trust in Hensek. We have no doubt that Hensek will deliver a quality job. He is working as an Akwa Ibom son, and not cutting corners.
Also speaking, the Member Representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency, Hon Uduak Udoudoh, said, “ I was not surprised you were given this project. Over the years, you have delivered. I commend you for not disappointing AKS people. I commend Governor Udom for this contract award to Hensek.
Other Members of the Committee, also had glowing words for Hensek, on the quality of roads done so far.
