…The Police, Akpabio conspiracy
…Its ridiculous how criminal suspects in Akwa Ibom now become complainants in Abuja- Transparency International
…A’Ibom CP must call IPO Nkereuwem Okpo- Rights Group
There is outrage in Midim community in Essien Udim LGA of Akwa Ibom State over plots by the police authorities to transfer the cult leader of the dreaded Akwa Marine Confraternity, Mr Emmanuel Ben currently being detained in Abuja back to Uyo. At the center of the plot are some politicians in Essien Udim working in conjunction with Inspector Nkereuwem Okpo, the police IPO handling the matter at the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and some elements of the force at the Police Zonal Command at Zone 6 in Calabar.
Ben, the prime suspect in the many atrocities carried out by the gang has gave useful information to the police in the course of his interrogation in Abuja. This development has rattled most of his sponsors in the area who fear the continuous detention and arraignment of the suspect in Abuja will put them in jeopardy.
Under the plot, the cultists who were arrested following series of petitions from many indigenes of the area are now to be arrested, detained and arraigned. The victim is now to become the accused in a fresh plot to twist the case, complicate and undermine investigation and subvert justice. The conspiracy to transfer Emmanuel Ben from Abuja back to Uyo when Abuja is yet to conclude investigation has cast serious doubt over the integrity of the police hierarchy with many insisting the police has been seriously compromised.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police has been urged to rise above board and call the IPO, Inspector Nkeruwem Okpo to order, describing as embarrassing to the Police Force, a situation whereby the parents of victims killed by the cult group are complainants in Abuja only for the accused to become the complainant at Ikot Akpan Abia.
Despite the arrest and detention of their leader, the Akwa Marine Confraternity last week went on rampage in Midim Community in Essien Udim, looting, maiming and shooting sporadically.
Reports say even when Akwa Marine cultist were shooting sporadically to disperse marketers, breaking into shops, looting their goods, the Akwa Ibom State Police headquarters in declined to intervene.
The cultist being emboldened by the collision of the police in Akwa Ibom allegedly moved from compound to compound looking for those who do not support the release of their leader and attacking them.
