Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced an increase in bursary payments for students in government-owned tertiary institutions, raising the general award from ₦50,000 to ₦200,000, while students studying Medicine, Law and Engineering will receive ₦250,000.
The new rates are expected to take effect from the 2027 academic session. Eno announced the increase during a question-and-answer session on the second day of the 2026 Ibom Ignite Conference in Uyo.
The increase represents a significant adjustment to the state’s students financial support program and to provide additional assistance to eligible students, while students studying Medicine, Law and Engineering will receive ₦250,000 under the new arrangement.
The announcement comes amid rising education costs and growing financial pressure on students and their families. The increased bursary is expected to provide additional financial support to eligible students in the state’s public tertiary institutions.
In July 2026, the state government increased the bursary award from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 per beneficiary and announced support for examination fees for pupils and students in public schools. The latest adjustment represents a further increase in the state’s bursary support.
Further details on eligibility requirements, application procedures and payment arrangements are expected from the relevant state authorities ahead of implementation in the 2027 academic session.
